Art-on-Paper is Precious

It’s a whole VIBE.

Before moving to NYC I worked with mostly oil paint on canvas. I had the luxury of a large, ventilated studio space with storage. After moving into our two bedroom apartment in Manhattan, my fiancé and I converted the larger of the two rooms into our shared studio and office space.

I knew that I had to re-imagine what creating would look like for me.

My solution was shifting toward creating with less toxic mediums (less oil and solvents) and more water soluble paints and faster drying mediums on paper. That way I could remain as prolific as I wanted and not crowd us out of our home.

I discovered that I really enjoyed working with luxurious paper surfaces. It was also a full-circle reintroduction to my undergraduate roots of working with traditional print design. We were obsessed with paper. We’d glide our finder-tips over its surface, flick the edges to test its sturdiness and listen to the sound each piece would make as we explored its properties.

There are so many beautiful pulps, weights and finishes to choose from. The sky is truly the limit.

I’ve worked with paper from all over the world. Classical to contemporary, sustainable blends; paper made from cotton, to bamboo to hand recycled. Artists have been creating artwork on paper for thousands of years.

I was tapping into a long tradition.

For reasons I don’t fully agree with, Artworks on Paper can be viewed as less valuable than say oil on canvas. Perhaps it’s the perception of longevity or the sheer weight of one surface over another. But I can assure you that artists that work on paper put as much love into their work as they would on any other surface. And when cared for, paper, too, stands the test of time.

There are even large Art Fairs specific to Paper in the global market.

The next one here in NYC is the ‘Art on Paper’ Fair on September 8th - 11th. All this to say - don’t look past Art on Paper so quickly.

It’s an important destination for the arts.

Below are just a few available abstract works on paper from my studio. Please click on any to take you to their information pages.

Many of my collectors have already embraced works on paper and report back that they love them.

From the bottom of my heart I am grateful for you.

When you collect smaller works from living artists you are not only getting to enjoy and elevate your home and favorite spaces with original art, but you’re supporting us to continue to elevate, study and continue our practice of making art.

Please let me know if you have any questions about any artworks you see on my website. My deepest Thanks!
