This Showstopper took inspiration from an iconic mod photo of 60s fashion darling Twiggy. While faithfully capturing her essence, I reimagined the colors and feel to create an electrifying, contemporary update brimming with life.
This Showstopper began over a decade ago when I was first inspired by an iconic mod photo of 60s fashion darling Twiggy. The initial painting showed promise, but did not fully capture her essence at my skill level at the time. The project lay dormant as I continued honing my craft over 10 years.
Recently, I rediscovered the unfinished work and felt compelled to breathe new life into it. I reimagined the colors and feel to create an electrifying, contemporary update brimming with life. Twiggy is undoubtedly the focal point, rendered larger-than-life in stunning detail from her coy backwards glance to her flawless skin and signature style.
This second pass allowed me to utilize my technical painting abilities that I’ve developed over my time in NYC, to translate the mod ‘underpainting’ into a modern pop art vision vibrant with life. The renewed painting is a testament to the power of revisiting a piece with fresh eyes and newfound artistic maturity.
