Painting From Life • Pittsburgh

Meet Daina Griffith: a captivating presence in Pittsburgh's theater scene.

If you've witnessed her perform, you've been enchanted by her effortless stage presence, moved by her ability to connect with her audience, and gobsmacked by the sheer volume of exemplary work she puts out into the world. But her talent doesn't stop there; Daina is also a dedicated coach, preparing young actors for auditions and higher education programs.

Having collaborated in film projects with Daina for years, she was among the first I approached for my latest portrait painting-from-life series.

Despite her busy schedule, she graciously sat for me in July.

Currently, she's immersed in directing "Merrily We Roll Along" at the New Hazlett Theatre with Front Porch Theatrics.

To me, Daina is more than just a sensational artist; she is an incredible woman, friend, wife, and daughter.

Her spirit is receptive and soft, yet robust and grounded.

I wanted to honor these aspects of her in my painting, attempting to capture a glimpse of her wonder and magic.

The work is still in progress, and if I can convey even a touch of her essence, I'll consider it a success. Enjoy a behind-the-scenes glimpse of our time together and a snapshot of my painting in process.

Stay tuned for the final reveal!

And thank you, Daina, for contributing to this body of work.. *throws flowers on the stage*
